Cathy Stefanec Ogren photoI believe in reading and writing books that children can use as magical tools to spark their curiosity and imagination. I was lucky enough to grow up in a home surrounded by books and parents who encouraged reading and frequent visits to the library—one of my favorite places. I began my writing career at a young age, scripting plays with my neighborhood friends and persuading our parents to come and watch, promising Oscar-winning performances. Before becoming a full-time writer, I spent many years as an elementary school teacher, working with second- and third-grade students. Because of my husband's job transfers, I have had the opportunity to teach in Illinois, Wisconsin, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. I spent my final years in education in a small private school as the librarian, where I was passionate about introducing new and diverse books to my students and teaching them about the world. Reading and writing have always been a big part of my life. I've come a long way since my first attempts at writing. I began my professional writing career by contributing stories, articles, finger plays, and action poems for educational and children's magazines. Currently, I have two picture books published and one coming out in the fall of 2026. I hope to have many more in the future. Surrounded by piles of books, my husband and I live in New Hampshire and make frequent visits to our four very active grandchildren in Massachusetts.
